Canfield UMC

As United Methodists, we are the second largest Protestant denomination in America.  Canfield UMC is a member church of the East Ohio Conference of the UMC.

We hold to the basic teachings of Christianity and consider ourselves part of the whole church of Jesus Christ made up of many denominations.

We believe that everyone can know God’s love through Christ and be changed.  Experiencing a personal relationship with God gives us courage to live with strength, integrity, love and compassion.

We believe we are called to larger horizons and broader experiences, both as individuals and as communities.  We understand life is dynamic, not static.  We seek to grow daily, to stretch our understanding of God and of our world.  We endeavor to become more like Jesus in our personal and social lives.

While we are bound together by these truths, we recognize diversity of thought about many matters. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion. John Wesley said that Methodists are not defined by their opinions, but by how much they love God and shed God’s love abroad in the world.

Vision:

Bringing transformation to the community through passionate witness and service.

Mission:

Jesus’ words in Matthew 28: 19-20 provide the context for our mission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

It is our mission to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
